Washitaw Curator Umar Shabazz Bey on the Network
On April 15, 1804 Then President Jefferson penned a letter to William Dunbar, to lead an expedition into Washitaw land. On October 23 1804, the expedition reached the prehistory mound complex. November 26, they arrived in a washitaw city, they called it Fort Miro, now knew as Monroe, La. George Hunter spelled our nationality name with a "W" Washitaw. William Dunbar changed the spelling to Ouachitaw. Tonight we have one of the curators of the Washitaw, MasterUmar Shabazz Bey, bee keeper and he who lives on the land.
